Mahmud and Maryam, an Azerbaijani film based on an eponymous novel by famous writer Elchin Efendiyev, was screened on Sunday at the Katara Drama Theatre.

The screening was a joint initiative between the embassy of Azerbaijan and Katara – The Cultural Village.
The ceremony was attended by Azerbaijan ambassador Rashad Ismayilov, Turkish Culture and Heritage Foundation president Gunay Efendiyeva, Turkiye ambassador Mehmet Mustafa Göksu, other diplomats and representatives of the Azerbaijani community in Qatar.
Before the screening, Ismayilov thanked Katara general manager Dr Khalid Ibrahim al-Sulaiti and International Relations Department head Maryam Majed al-Saad for their help and support.
Efendiyeva, in her address, thanked the Azerbaijan embassy and Katara.
*Mahmud and Maryam, the first project in Azerbaijan-Turkey partnership, was co-produced by Turkish director Mehmet Ada Öztekin in 2013.
Aras Bulut Iynemli and Eva Dedova play the key roles in the feature film, dubbed in Arabic and screened in Qatar for the first time in Arab countries, which tells the story of two young people from two different worlds.
The events of the film take place in the 15th century.
